The rehabilitation of the Hydrobiology Research Centre of Uvira is reaching its end. The rehabilitation of the premises of this research institution is a prerequisite for participation in the Lake Tanganyika water quality monitoring network as part of the LATAWAMA project implemented by Enabel, and the Lake Tanganyika Authority with funds from the European Union. The General Director of this institution Mr. Mohoza Bidaka Jean Marie, talked to Rodrigue NIYONGABO, in charge of communication for the LATAWAMA project.
Her name is Uziya Nyamugo. She lives in Uvira, more precisely in Kalundu. She is one of the women in AHDS, Humanitarian Action for Social Development. During the visit of the LATAWAMA project team to the city of Uvira in October 2021, we met Uziya and the members of the association on the ground doing their almost daily work: composting organic waste.
The Burundian Office for the Protection of the Environment, OBPE, and the laboratory of the sewage treatment plant of Buterere under the Burundian Office of Habitat, Urbanism, and Construction, OBUHA officially received the office equipment from the LATAWAMA project. The handing over of this equipment was carried out on Wednesday, August 04, 2021, in the presence of senior officers of these two institutions, such as the Director of Environment and Climate Change at OBPE, Ms. Renilde Ndayishimyiye, and the Director of Environment, Hygiene, and sanitation Mr. Cleophas Bizabishaka on behalf of OBUHA.
In the city of Kigoma, Tanzania, community-based organizations are one of the backbones of solid waste management operations. Besides, other actions in waste management have also been undertaken. Beneficiaries talked to the technical team. The feedback is heartening.
