The Burundian Office for the Protection of the Environment, OBPE, and the laboratory of the sewage treatment plant of Buterere under the Burundian Office of Habitat, Urbanism, and Construction, OBUHA officially received the office equipment from the LATAWAMA project. The handing over of this equipment was carried out on Wednesday, August 04, 2021, in the presence of senior officers of these two institutions, such as the Director of Environment and Climate Change at OBPE, Ms. Renilde Ndayishimyiye, and the Director of Environment, Hygiene, and sanitation Mr. Cleophas Bizabishaka on behalf of OBUHA.

The Hydrobiology Research Centre of Uvira (CRH-Uvira), one of the partners of the EU-funded LATAWAMA project, implemented by Enabel and Lake Tanganyika Authority, is one of the four Lake Tanganyika Water Monitoring Network reference laboratories and will be responsible for collecting and analyzing water quality data from the northwest side of the Lake. Its rehabilitation and modernization begin in June 2021.
