On Friday, June 17, 2022, the LATAWAMA project team made of Didier CADELLI (the Intervention Manager) and Fridolin NZAMBIMANA (the Intervention Officer, Solid Waste Management) handed over to Kigoma/Ujiji Municipal Council (KUMC), solid waste collection equipment made of six motorized tricycles, one repaired mini-truck, 15 Points of Sales (POS), 120 complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and three skip-buckets/containers.
Things come in threes, as the saying goes! After the additional sanitation work at the Uvira prison, which consisted of providing showers and toilets for prisoners and staff and constructing a biodigester to supply gas to the kitchens, the project took on a new challenge
The Latawama project and the Tanzanian Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI) conducted, in April 2022, an identification and feasibility mission to establish a new research environmental monitoring centre in the southern part of Lake Tanganyika.
The LATAWAMA project, in collaboration with the Uvira municipality, launched awareness-raising and solid waste collection activities on 19 and 20 April. This initiative is part of the LATAWAMA project implemented by the Belgian development agency Enabel and the Lake Tanganyika Authority with funding from the European Union
Digitizing the wastewater collection network was entrusted to the SHER consultancy firm (Namur, Belgium). This mission includes the inventory and an evaluation of the physical state of the current network, involving archival research and fieldwork. A complete asset database and a GIS application will be developed to provide OBUHA with the means to significantly improve the management of the network’s assets, with priority given to its maintenance and rehabilitation.
