Invited by the African Circular Economy Network (ACEN) and African Circular Economy Alliance (ACEA), the LATAWAMA project, represented by Fridolin NZAMBIMANA, Intervention Officer for Solid Waste Management, was honored to attend the 2022 World Circular Economy Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda from 06th to 08th December 2022. The forum (the sixth to be organized and the first to be held on African soil) was jointly organized by the Government of Rwanda and the Finnish Innovation Fund SITRA, and officiated by Mujawamariya Jeanne d’Arc, Ministry of Environment.

The forum was titled “From Africa to the World”. At the same time, the Rwanda Studio launched the Rwanda Circular Economy Action Plan and Roadmap which envisions placing the Circular economy at the core of its economic activities by 2035 in investing in four main sectors: agriculture, waste management, construction, and water. Moreover, at the Circular Economy Hub Africa, participants got the opportunity to learn from circular economy business models in Rwanda. The lessons learned from the forum will be useful considering that one of the components of the second phase of the LATAWAMA project should be dedicated to implementing pilot activities aligned with the circular economy principles and practices.

The LATAWAMA project is funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the Belgian Development Agency and the Lake Tanganyika Authority.
